Happy Valentine's Day, Lovelies!
I hope that you're having a great Valentine's Day- but truthfully this day that can be a bit stressful, no matter what your relationship status is. Especially if you work in a restaurant, I bet! So in the middle of this celebration of romantic loooove, let's set the roses and candle light aside for a moment in favour of two other kinds of love that are some of my faves…
“Creature” Love
If you have pets, there's something amazing you can do to express how much you love your creatures today. Please take a few minutes to order a Free Pet Safety Pack from the ASPCA. By filling out a quick form, they'll send you a window decal that you can put at the entrances to your home or apartment that will give fire and rescue workers the names of your pets & let them know how many are inside in case of emergency. It takes very little time and could save a life that might be overlooked in an emergency. Sharing this service is an unofficial Valentine's Day tradition on my blog, and it's a great way to show your creatures some life altering love! :)
“Wow What A World!!” Love
It can be really easy to get wrapped up in expectations around holidays like this, and even just in the day to day stress we all have. If you can, put some headphones on and watch the following video- it's time lapse footage of the milky way, taken at Mt. Ruapehu, NZ. It's a beautiful reminder of how small we really are, and of how huge the universe is! There is so much possibility and beauty out there- don't forget to be swept away in it & celebrate how incredible that is :)

Its great to see some alternate takes on valentines, so many people complain about it being a fake commercial holiday or exclusive of some people, but to look at it from your point of view lets it be a day for us to make a point of remembering how wonderful the world can be! Very though provoking stuff!

I still have my ASPCA decal kit from when you blogged about it a year (or two?) ago. Creature love is some of the best kind of love if you ask me. I spent 10 minutes last night cuddling with Jack.

I love this. I think there is far too much emphasis on romantic love on Valentine’s Day – my mom always taught me that you should also remember to show your love to friends, relatives, etc. on V-Day! It also makes the day a lot more fun and a lot less full of pressure.

Thank you for sharing about the pet safety pack from the ASPCA! I just ordered one to protect my two dogs. I love that this is your tradition for Valentine’s day. I like to think of Valentine’s Day as more of a giving and sharing love day, instead of a romantic love day. So I hope that you have a love filled and very Happy Valentine’s day.

Valentine’s Day is one of my FAVORITE holidays! Jen and I do something that’s “us” – we don’t follow any type of norm. We go with what we love and what we love about one another. Kinda like a day to celebrate love, even though we do every day of every year!!!
I do LOVE that you mention creature love and world love. I agree that both are absolutely AMAZING!!! I’m a h-u-g-e animal lover and a bit of a hippie, hehe.
