My Passions

A Note From The Nest

by Kyla Roma on August 8, 2011

in Freckled Nest, My Passions

This summer at Freckled Nest has been incredible in all senses- we’ve been offered incredible opportunities, felt incredibly supported by & grateful to our clients, and we’ve been working incredibly hard. When I started working with LA last year I was excited for whatever would come my way, but I didn’t know what running a business was going to be like. Half a year later, the work I do in any given day could be anything from managing our online courses, coordinating a large team of freelancers, managing advertising programs for professional bloggers, keeping our internal systems up to date, blogging, or working with my own design clients. It’s so exciting and dynamic, but as our business has continued to grow it’s become clear that it’s the right time for us to find full time help, and that this could be a really special opportunity for the right person.

I’ve always loved this photography meme, but I’ve never tried it until this weekend…

Welcome to my Saturday.

ps – Are you in the mood to explore? This weekend I updated my sponsor information with something new and updated my contact page with ways to be featured on my blog :)

Today I’m excited to share a video blog (a real one) which I haven’t done in a long time! As I’ve been working on my Analog 52 project, where I take photos with my lomo camera every week and share the results each month while I learn to become a better analog photographer.

I wanted to share how I’m learning to use a lomo camera without spending too much money, how interchangeable backs on a Diana can be a good investment and two tips that I recommend for anyone who is thinking about approaching the same kind of a project.

I’m really excited to introduce you to my friend Kathy! I worked with her to redesign her blog, and in the process was blown away by her amazing life! She has two great etsy shop, a beautiful home you have to see to believe and lives in rural British Columbia. She has some great perspective on fitting blogging into a busy life, and on the importance of handmade.

New Design, New Blogging Love

I’m so excited to share that I’m bursting at the seams- I have a new blog design!

Click on the image to come visit if you’re reading by e-mail or in a reader :)

The Story

I’ve been wanting to re-design my blog for about six months- but it’s been hard for me to know where to start. I did my last design a year ago when I had just learned how to trick HTML and CSS into thinking that I knew a little about them, and a year later they’re what I do all day long! Approaching this design was really hard for me. Between client projects I came up with ideas, psyched myself out, went back to the drawing board, and asked Leigh-Ann eleventy billion questions.

One of the blessings of being a visual person is that it’s incredibly easy to get inspired. I soak something up everything that’s around me, from architecture to pop culture, but that can also makes it really hard to stay focused sometimes!  I’ve set up my desk to have a small vintage collection in one corner that I change whenever I go thrifting. This way I’m always inspired and energized when I sit down, which makes taking care of my to do list a hundred times easier. Or, a hundred times easier after my nails have been done with a new colour on Monday- I love my nail polish ritual :)

This afternoon, instead of blogging + living in Photoshop I’m tucking myself in a corner of the studio with my charms and headphones, listening to Adele and sipping coffee while wearing mukluks and watching the snow fly by.

(And for a treat for working on the weekend I’m grabbing one of my favourite
ooey and gooey vegan s’mores on the way home! :])

Tonight and tomorrow, instead of updating twitter and streaming TV I’m turning my couch into a fort with my Kindle and the comforter from our bed, and then I’ll cuddle close to my Mister before he leaves town for another week in another province.

I’ve been having so much fun working on design projects lately, and I had an amazing time working with Holly from Scattered Words. I wanted to introduce you to her- she’s a new mom & horse lover who wanted a real life feel to her blog and for it to reflect her life. I’ll let you meet her, and then show you what we dreamed up together…

Guess what Leigh-Ann and I did yesterday?

We gave the studio it’s name!

Up until now Lune Vintage has had it’s beautiful window vinyl up, but because most of our business is done with international clients we haven’t felt a rush to put up a sign. We’ve just had a little one that we made quickly… until now! Putting the vinyl up was a really fun and special moment that makes me feel even prouder when I see our little space!

LA is a pro, she showed me the ropes :)
