Glimpse of Summer

in Her Life, Prairie Style, Stories About:

In the past ten days my prairie city has been a changed place- instead of late winter snowstorms we’ve had sunshine, instead of a windchill we’ve had humidity, and it has been amazing! All the snow and wind have vanished and instead it’s patio and t-shirt weather. I’ve never experienced anything like this, and it’s so amazing to have spring when my American friends are enjoying the beautiful weather!

Exhibit A: the photo on the left was March 8th, and the photo on the right was taken on March 18th.

When Leigh-Ann, Jill and I were starting to think about the ways we could grow Indie Business: Compass, our eCourse on establishing a strong foundation for small businesses, we talked about a lot of different ideas that could help make the course stronger. As we talked, we came up with the idea of using old fashioned, seafaring navigation as the inspiration for how we would share the course. We imagined having an Indie Business ship to represent each student & the journey that they’re on with their business, then a compass that helps each business set out and move forward strongly (representing the Compass eCourse), and finally a north star that would mean no matter what each business owner is encountering, they’ll know how to navigate what they’re experiencing, which will be used for the master class eCourse we’ll be sharing next year.

Last month I went thrifting for the first time in a while, and found the first six books in a set of craft books from the early 70′s. Each book has all different of crafts in them, from knitting and sewing basics to completely elaborate projects and they’re one of the most definitive craft series from their time. When I brought them into the studio I realized that Leigh-Ann had a number of the matching Golden Hands magazine binders filled with the specialized topic magazines that they published!

Snowflakes & Sprinkles

in Her Life, Stories About:

The days since the double loss have been a bit uphill, but I’m happy to be feeling more like my normal self and all the sweet messages everyone has sent have been just the loveliest. I’m so lucky to have amazing blog & twitter friends- who are also amazing friends, full stop. I’ve been messaging & visiting the blogs of everyone who reached out to me through twitter & my blog over the weekend, and it’s been fun to explore so many new blogs with such great hearts behind them.

Proud

in Anxiety, Her Life, Stories About:

Most of the time I don’t realize how much my life has changed since I found out I have a generalized anxiety disorder. I’ve only blogged about it a few times, and I don’t talk about it a lot, but since I started taking medication and taking better care of myself a lot has changed. It took a long time- first three months, then six months and now over a year, but the difference has been amazing. I don’t have as many random bad days as I did before, I don’t worry or dwell as much, I have energy that lasts me through the whole day, I don’t hold my breath all the time and my whole body is relaxed instead of bracing for something to happen. I’m able to be more present and giving in all of my relationships. I’m more consistently outgoing and positive. I’m more consistently myself.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Lovelies!

I hope that you’re having a great Valentine’s Day- but truthfully this day that can be a bit stressful, no matter what your relationship status is. Especially if you work in a restaurant, I bet! So in the middle of this celebration of romantic loooove, let’s set the roses and candle light aside for a moment in favour of two other kinds of love that are some of my faves…

Currently Loving

by Kyla Roma on February 13, 2012

in Her Life, Stories About:

Sometimes I get so caught up in sharing links and resources that I drift away from blogging about what’s happening in my life, and that’s no fun! While I have lots of fun ideas for posts, I’m making sure that they all have lots of my heart and daily life in them. So, as a way to catch up, these are some of the things that I’ve been up to lately and that I’ve been really loving!

Working with my hands is one of my favourite things in the world. Knitting, crocheting, making jewellery and inventing custom journals and agendas for myself is so energizing! It’s one of my biggest passions- alongside thrifting, design and blogging that is. And cooking & baking! :)

In the past year, Leigh-Ann and  I have been really focused on growing our web design business, but we both have a big place for handmade in our hearts. Since the fall we’ve been exchanging ideas about how we could take each of our “old” etsy shops and combine them into one mega-shop that represented both of our personal styles.
