Me & My Mister

Today is my birthday, and I wanted to duck in and write a quick post before heading out to be with Jesse and my family today. Last year on this day I set some pretty big goals that would set the stage for my being able to quit my job and work on design, blogging and my creative passions full time. Looking back at that post is surreal- I wouldn’t have believed it if someone had told me this is where I would be a year later, and I’m so incredibly grateful for all of your support!

This afternoon, instead of blogging + living in Photoshop I’m tucking myself in a corner of the studio with my charms and headphones, listening to Adele and sipping coffee while wearing mukluks and watching the snow fly by.

(And for a treat for working on the weekend I’m grabbing one of my favourite
ooey and gooey vegan s’mores on the way home! :])

Tonight and tomorrow, instead of updating twitter and streaming TV I’m turning my couch into a fort with my Kindle and the comforter from our bed, and then I’ll cuddle close to my Mister before he leaves town for another week in another province.

Date Day!

by Kyla Roma on March 7, 2011

in Her Life, Me & My Mister, Prairie Style, Stories About:

I’ve been having a great time and working super hard lately (case and point!), but I haven’t been taking enough dedicated time to have fun with my young husband. So this weekend we decided to make Sunday a day that was just for us… and my camera! We had a great time at brunch, going to antique shops, the art gallery and spending an amazing day together. It was so much fun to know all week that we had this to look forward to, and to set the whole day aside just for us.

sleeping

I’ve been working on launching a few new blog design projects over the past week, which has meant some really late nights and on Sunday I started sleep talking about web design. It was such a funny way start to the day that I had to share it here!

Jesse tried to wake me up on Sunday morning and I woke up enough to talk… without being awake. Our conversation went like this:

J: “Hey Ky, are you getting up?”

K: “……what kind of a background do you use for inspiration?”

J: “What do you mean?”

Where I live, in Manitoba, today is Louis Riel day! I’m loving the long weekend & today Jesse and the puppies and I are hanging around the house. I’m in one of my comfiest dresses, eating a late breakfast and then tucking in for a day of design work. I love the sleepy, calm mornings that an extra day of weekend brings.

2011

Looking back at my one goal for 2010: slow down, I have to laugh a little. While I had good intentions, 2010 started slow and quickly sped up to a sprint. If 2010 was just one word, it would be stretch.

There’s no denying that we’ve been incredibly lucky to have such a long fall- but since the snow started falling and staying on the ground, it’s been an adjustment! My winter clothes have been hauled out of the basement to replace the shorts I hadn’t quite packed away yet, and there have been a couple of times where I’ve scraped ice off my windshield with a CD when I couldn’t find the scraper. But the biggest adjustment in the winter is definitely for the dogs- the days of running outside casually and back in again are decidedly over, and walks become a bit of a production thanks to their blankets and doggy boots.

Thrifting + Flying Solo

by Kyla Roma on November 15, 2010

in Her Life, Me & My Mister, Stories About:

This weekend was a thrifting marathon! Leigh-Ann and I work together and live in the same city, but we haven’t hung out a lot this fall since I started my job- and the best way to remedy that is with a thrifting mission. We brought our boys and went through store after store- including a giant warehouse that was mostly unheated and practically a labyrinth! Each floor was all things themed by a different era, and the aisles of furniture were packed SO high! You can see a picture of me trying to scout a credenza for LA without starting a chair avalanche in just over a foot of space on Leigh-Ann’s blog- it was really jaw dropping!

Let’s Head For The Border

by Kyla Roma on October 4, 2010

in Her Life, Me & My Mister, Stories About:

The end of summer has been wild in these parts. It’s been a jumble of juggling freelance work while finding a new job, traveling out to blogger meet ups and having one of my best friends come to stay with us while working said new job, planning a shop launch and attempting to still, you know, shower every day. It has been a ton of fun and I feel extremely lucky, but I’m an introvert at heart and without time at home to just rest I don’t fare so well. So when our wedding anniversary trip started creeping around the corner, I was so happy I could have made out with the pilot.
