When I started dreaming about quitting my day job to work with Leigh-Ann at Freckled Nest I knew that it would be more than I could imagine. More rewarding, more exciting and at times it’s also been more challenging.
The funny thing that I’ve found about owning a business is that many times I’ve found the most challenging thing I have to manage in my business is myself! That was especially true this summer when I found that it was hard to keep my focus on the big picture when there was so much that needed my attention from day to day. I needed to see the spaciousness of possibilities in the life I was creating, but I found it really hard to keep that wider perspective.

September went by in a blur, and without blogging I missed writing, photography & sharing everything so much! It was fun to stay connected on twitter but tiny updates aren’t as satisfying as posting about the big picture, so this is what my September looked like…

Taking a break from blogging gave me back lots of time everyday to work on client projects and work ahead on whatever I needed to. The weather was mostly gorgeous and warm, so I started walking to work while I still could. Because Jesse took some holiday time we got a chance to walk in together with the little dogs on the first day when there was just a little chill in the air. It was luxurious to take our time and sip coffee while walking through the city to the studio.

Hello there, Chickadees!
It’s been such a long time since I’ve written and I’m so excited to start blogging again! I’ll be writing again starting Monday, and to get my blog ready I’ve made a few changes:
◆ I’ve added a section in my sidebar for beautiful things I’m currently loving that will be updated through the week
◇ I’ve changed my Featured Posts to make it easier to find anything from vegetarian recipes to photography of my collections & favourite finds
◆ I’ve been working on photographing lots of fun seasonal projects and DIY’s for October
◇ I had a mini-widget design marathon and added more pretty widgets to choose from:

Hi Chickadees,
Just checking into let you know two things:

- Everything’s fine- in fact it’s much better than fine. I’m happy & loving the late summertime :)
- I’m going to be taking a short break from blogging and will return by October

These are some of my favourite moments from my trip to the Minnesota State Fair with Mandy, Lisa & Nora last year. It was one of the best weekends of the past year- when I needed to put the “getting to know you” of new jobs and new friends aside for a weekend to just be known, comfortable and loved with good friends.
Those times are so wonderful- I hope that you’ve spent some time with summer with people who know all your oldest stories & will laugh with you until your cheeks hurt from smiling. If you haven’t? It’s not quite September yet :)

My paternal grandmother was a tough lady, and her name was Pearl. When she was a little girl, she was the first one on horses who hadn’t been broken and would ride the wild ones into haystacks to stop them. She was incredibly beautiful and went to Hollywood when she was young to be in movies, and eventually came home to the prairies and raised her family. She passed away when I was very young so we didn’t get to know each other well, but in the few memories I have of her she was teaching me to sew or cook at her house. It’s fitting that the one thing of hers I have is a box of recipes.

I’m always amazed by how much time can fly by on my blog without an update on how things in my life are going, and I thought it’s about time for a little update…

And even though I look like I will, I promise I won’t deliver this update by breaking into song ;)

Happy to be fully healed from adding the background into my sleeve and I love how the purple adds so much movement to it. I haven’t taken nice photos of it yet, but the picture above should give you an idea.

Recently a good friend of mine came to me asking for advice about how she could transition from her full time job into having a more creative day to day life. It gave me a lot to think about, because I think that especially online there is a lot out there about how much more wonderful everyone’s life would be if they quit their job and started working for themselves. Those stories are obviously extremely inspiring to hear about, and I’m not immune to that- in fact spent a lot of time over the past year daydreaming, planning and praying that I could make that leap myself- and when I did (part one, part two) I was ecstatic!
