This weekend I got a record player, and it’s official: I’m in love. I’ve been stalking a few online but this weekend my sister offered me one that my parents bought in the 1970′s along with her record collection and I couldn’t pick it up fast enough once the offer was out in the world. It’s a big old girl, but plays beautifully and once I connected the speakers I got to pour through her records to choose the first we would play. Rust Never Sleeps won out and the warm sounds spilled through the house like sunlight, making the house feel more like home than it had yet. Of course it was a close call between that and the Jane Fonda Workout record ;)
In the past few days I got my office set up, caught up on sleep, make an incredibly tasty fall dinner (that I’ll be sharing later this week), and committed to getting fit by signing up for my first crossfit class. I have very little gym and fitness experience beyond walking & running on my own and I’m going to have my butt properly kicked! I’m excited to do something totally new to me, and I’m hoping that this is something that will be “for me” so I can lose some weight, get energized, and get in with a group of people who can help me stay motivated. Walking into a new situation, especially one that’s not a strength, is always a little intimidating but I know that even that discomfort is part of stretching myself in a way that’s good for me.
I think that when I get home I’ll steep a cup of tea, find another record and grab a book as a reward. Make that a book and an ice pack- but it will still be a reward :)
I’d love to hear how you’ve made being active part of your life. I listen to audio books and take my dogs for long walks almost every day, but it’s not enough to counteract how much I sit at a computer. I think classes will be a good thing for me to explore, even if crossfit isn’t right for me. But I hope it is!
