A Mail Call and a Postcard Exchange!

This week at The Nest I was a witness to an exciting and happy event: MAIL DELIVERY!

We haven’t quite managed to put our mailbox up yet, but we’ve been receiving bills popped between the door so it didn’t occur to me that anything was wrong. After I posted the studio’s address last month I didn’t exactly get inundated with postcards- I wondered what the were odds that literally no one who reads my blog cares to write letters? This was my train of thought: “I’m a letter person! My readers are crazy awesome and we always get along! That’s so weird. Am I even more niche than I thought?” I thought it was really funny and started considering that maybe I should hint to my husband that he might want to write me a letter, or maybe ask my mom to write me a note? ;)

And then last week, in walked the lady who lives in the apartment attached to the back of the studio. She had a pile of postcards and letters, and said “Is this Freckled Nest? Are you Kyla?” – it turns out that the mailman had been delivering some of our mail to the apartments!! And the postcards and notes she delivered? They’re so beautiful and made me feel so excited- I had to share a few of them…

I was really excited to go through them & explore the blogs of the girls who’ve written me so far, I’ve already started my responses! If you have a moment I’d love to hear from you- and I’ll send you a postcard back & be sure to stop by your blog. There’s just nothing more exciting than getting something beautiful in the mail!

Write to me at…

When was the last time you wrote a letter, just because?

I hope you all put up a mailbox! Thats too funny that some of the cards and letters were delivered to the apartments. I need to send you a postcard! I’ve been really bad lately about sending snail mail just because. I need to get back into it. =)

last time I wrote a letter just because? It’s been awhile. It’s on my “to do” list but lately everything seems to be on my “to do” list. I have so much lovely stationary so I really need to get going on it! Love the story about the postcards and how they were going to the wrong address; so glad they made it to you :)

This is so awesome! I guess I didn’t even notice the address posted? But, yesterday I was thinking about how fun it would be to have a pen pal! I LOVE getting happy mail!

I try to write about 10 cards/letters a week to friends & family. I’m trying to reach 200 – & right now I’m hovering around 160, because I’ve been slacking! But I do love a good snail mail letter, & I find that if you write TO people, you’re very likely to get responses. <3

I just wrote you one, and then when I was writing the address out, I remembered you live in Canada and I’m thinking I’m going to have to go to the Post Office to mail it. sigh I’m going to Google this one

I’m always writing letters … a lot of my friends/family live on the other side of the country, so I have a good excuse. Letters are so much more fun than e-mails!

I very regularily write postcards to both my grandparents as I don’t see them very often and don’t have a phone I can easily call them with. It is my little way of staying in touch and it really isn’t a lot of effort on my part. I admittedly haven’t written a full letter in quite a while though. Might be time to do so soon.

I cannot remember the last time I chose snail mail over the million other ways of communication–e-mail, cell phone, Facebook, Twitter, etc. It’s time I re-busted out the cute stationary and put my rusty handwriting back to use. Thanks for the inspiration, Kyla!

It wasn’t totally random, but I sent a birthday card to a college friend this week and a “happy housewarming” to a sweet friend who just shacked up with her handsome boyfriend. So… I’ll keep an eye out for gorgeous Pac NW cards for you, love :)

Postcards are amazing!
I therefore signed up for http://www.postcrossing.com – it was wonderful! But then I started questioning why I would send more postcards to strangers (though I’ve made some good friends and got some cute small notes and felt loved from all over the world), instead of writing to my dearest and nearest.
So, now I try to write a bit more to family and friends, and i think they love it, while also writing some small notes through postcrossing.
