Friday Finds are Charmaine’s Girls

Between working with Urban Outfitters and Threadless, Charmaine Olivia’s work is hard to miss- but while I’ve seen her work I only recently found her blog and seen her work all in one place. I have to say I’m more than a little swept away.

I love the natural textures in the backgrounds, the tattoos and tan lines and how the women in her work are both sexy and effortless, every day and other worldly. I stumbled into a shop that had large format prints of her deer and bird pieces this week, and had to use all my self restraint to avoid redecorating our house. I’ve mostly had photography in our house until now, but these are making me re-think my walls entirely.

Do you have paintings in your home?

I have mostly photography- with the exception of a vintage portrait wall I’ve been building.

I need to branch out!

The walls in our house are covered with photography as well. I think drawings and paintings are beautiful but I also love glancing around the house and seeing those I hold closest. Maybe someday I’ll strike a happy medium.

Our house is more paintings and artwork than it is photography. At least at my parents house. Mine is a blend of both worlds when I have all my stuff where I want it. I love photography but I love the artwork pieces I have too. Very special stuff!

Love this artwork; makes me want to commission someonen to paint me. =)

Those are gorgeous! I love the boat one!

I live with two guys who are both punk/hardcore kids (my boyfriend and one of his friends), so our walls are mostly covered in old flyers for shows and band posters. The one place I have my own things up is my/my boyfriend’s bedroom; I have two paintings that my sister (a local artist) did. They’re done in a stencil style and absolutely gorgeous… I should really do a post on them.

You’ve seen my condo so you probably remember that I pretty much only have photography on my walls… Besides that Rothko-inspired painting that my friend and I painted. But that’s it. I am just more of a photography person than a painting person, though. I love looking around and seeing pictures of the places I have been. :)

The only thing I have on my wall is a chalkboard in our dining room I found at Goodwill, and my brother’s painting. He is trying to sell some of his paintings. You should check them out over at
http://www.etsy.com/shop/BrucetonStudios

He is new to Etsy and is working hard to sell his paintings on there (it’s hard when there are 4,000 some pages of paintings listed) so I am trying to get his name out there! If you like one, go for it! They’re a cheap price for paintings that’s for sure!

The only “painting” I have are prints that I got a from a friend that passed away. She loved them so much so I was happy to get them. Other than that we have wedding photos, a frame we love but can’t figure out what to put in it, and the photos it came with kinda go…,a photo we bought when we first got our house, one of those cut out rice paper things that stays in the frame with static (dragons for my husband), a mermaid I cross stitched, these wood gnome type faces that are carved out of wood (goal is to have 1 per room), and a DNA portrait of our daughter’s DNA. And it’s purple!

I just moved into a place that is all my own in September. So far, I have a mixture of both photography and paintings. In my old home, I had mostly my own art on the walls- paintings and photography. My 2 favorite pieces on my walls right now are a “Keep Calm and Carry On” canvas and a photo transferred to canvas of dozens of parked bikes.

i found her blog recently too and i was suuuuper excited!
i have had no photography any of the homes i have lived, mostly because I am an artist and I have a ridiculous amount of work that i’ve done for fun and for school. Its everywhere! I have no where else to store it but on the walls. It’s kind of embarrassing haha.

Also, my mom is an artist, a painter, and my dad is an art collector so the walls of my family’s house are literally COVERED with paintings. like, one wall of the living room is taken up by one HUGE painting. and every other wall of the house has at leeeeeeast 5 paintings, minimum on it. packed with paintings and art!

art art art! woo!

I love the way paintings look. The texture and color… I have mostly paintings and other decorative things on my walls and the photos are in frames or photobooks.

Oh, I love the fox masque. I have a combination of photography and paintings in my apartment. I love art and like nothing better than waking up surrounded by pieces that make me smile.
