Ash is so bored by interior decorating

by Kyla Roma on September 4, 2010

in Puppy Madness, Stories About:

I swear, you say the words “New salmon pillow” and he just zones right out.

Jesse painted the main floor of the house while I was away in Minneapolis (because he’s a rock star!) and today we’ve been running around scouting accent pieces in the new colour scheme I dreamed up for us. Our styles are very different, I’m bright colours, crafty & kitschy and Jesse is pale colours, minimalist and sparse… but I think we’re striking a good middle ground so far. I can’t wait to get it wrapped up and show you!

Hope you’re having a dreamy weekend!

Oooh, hope you finish soon! Yes, it’ll be fun to be done but really, I’m just thinking of Ash’s boredom!

You may have commented on this at some point previously, but I’m verrry interested in how you two are managing to strike that middle ground. We are not redecorating yet, but when we do (I’m already scheming) I foresee some major challenges in finding a balance!

I think the biggest thing that we’re doing is laying out a plan before we leave the house. We have very different styles not just of decorating, but of approaching these projects at all – I can “see” it all in my head before we leave, and Jesse doesn’t get what I mean even when I draw it for him! lol

First we came up with a colour scheme together (about four colours we wanted to pull into the room) and then I picked out some textures that I wanted to bring in. Jess was on board for those so when we went to shop it was easy to decide if something fit that criteria or not.

Our biggest sticking point is definitely the walls. Jesse wants to essentially leave them bare, where I want to put up groups of photo collections. To try and figure this one out, I’m taking printer paper and cutting it (approximately) to size and am showing him what the arrangements would look like on the wall. It’s a little elaborate, but I think he’ll really like them when it’s done, so I’m happy to give a little demo before :)

I never get tired of pics of the pups :-)

I hear you on styles being different! We are having such a time decorating our “office space” because everything Eric likes, I don’t and everything I like, he doesn’t. So far, after fourish hours of shopping we managed to agree on one desk chair, one wall hanging and kinda-sorta agree on one lamp that we now have to return because it’s too big!

I can’t even imagine attempting to decorate an entire house one day ;-)

My husband and I have pretty different taste in decorating too, but I think it makes our style more interesting. It’s a nice mesh of our two preferences… not too much one way or another :) I love that pillow–and that pup!

I like the middle ground too- left to my own devices I’m sure the house would be a little over the top, Jesse is a moderating influence for sure ;)

Ash is so cute!

Glad that you and Jesse are finding middle-ground. It would be interesting to get his perspective on the makeover… Guest blogger, perhaps? ;o)

That sounds about like J and I. When I mentioned getting a red sofa, J looked at me funny. This weekend I decided to rearrange the entire house and move a bright yellow chair + accents into the living room with our brown and neutral existing furniture. The color was enough to cure my bright colors want and J was happy as well.

Good luck! :)
