Greater Thans: Round Two

by Kyla Roma on August 27, 2010

in Lists & Facts, Stories About:

I’ve been itching to do another greater than post for a while, so here is how things are stacking up in my world at the moment…

bikes > cars

film > digital

bunnies > all other pets

board games > video games

handmade > designer

have > want

messy > neat

making it up as you go along > having it all planned out

laughing > smiling

crocheting corners > knitting cables

baking > cooking

listening > telling

My greater thans are always shifting and grappling for first place, trying to position themselves in the direct line of my attention- and I love that from one month to another they’re almost never the same.

Okay, maybe baking and knitting seem to rank up there consistently. And maybe the blogging. Plus I tend to watch a lot of bad sci-fi movies and then there’s…

…well, maybe I’m a bit of a creature of habit ;)

What are some of your greater thans?

60 degrees > 90 degrees
Fall is coming, slowly but surely – and I’m super psyched!
And I’m not sure your puppies would appreciate the bunnies> :)

I agree that film is greater than digital, and listening is definitely greater than telling. (I’m going out to dinner tonight with a friend for the first time in months, and sadly, her marriage is shattering, so I’m hoping to be a good listener for her when she needs it most.) I prefer the smell of cupcakes baking in the oven over any other form of cooking.

My greater thans:
optimism > pessimism
seeing the sun rise > sleeping in
naps > watching tv
fridays > mondays

Seeing everyone’s amazing film shots has really made me start researching different cameras. Are you happy with your holga?

Harry Potter > Twilight (or anything else for that matter lol)
Brights > Neutrals
last.fm > Pandora

watching VEDA videos > being productive
nurturing relationships > being productive
Wait! I’m seeing a theme here….

“bunnies > all other pets”

Oh, I heartily agree!

I love the bikes > cars comment. I’ve been biking to work lately and loving it!

On that note:

flat roads > hilly roads…when your on a bike that is… ;)

Yes.
I only wish my bunny was more cuddly…she’s not really into it.

So many of yours are like me!

board games > video games
handmade > designer
have > want (unless said want is a beautiful handmade item)
messy > neat
making it up as you go along > having it all planned out
baking > cooking
laughing > smiling

Here are some of mine:

cookies > all other food
knitting > housework
drying dishes > washing dishes
books > movies
blueberries > raspberries (husband LOVES raspberries, me blueberries, will be our lifelong disagreement)
fresh smell of rain > smell of dry heat

This one made me sad:
bunnies > all other pets – i had bought a bunny after a breakup and he was a super funny pet. He saw me through some rough times. Then when I had him for just about a year, he somehow broke both of his legs in his cage overnight and I had to put him down. It was Easter.

Hmmm, I am evenly divided on my agreement with your list… & I sure do love digital.

spring > summer
autumn > spring
paninis > cold sandwiches
soda in a can > soda in a bottle
cardigans > blazers
rolling ball pens > clicky pens
old friends = new friends

I keep meaning to do a whole post of these, a la Kyla, but for now, today, my Greater Than is:

indie coffee shops > Starbucks

Happy Friday dear! <3

Yesterday was my last day of work at Starbucks, and I completely agree with you! I’m so glad that I get to appease my caffeine addiction exclusively at some of our awesome indie coffee shops in town. YAY.

empathy>ignorance: Coming from a background where my family and friends were often treated quite badly solely because we are Native, I never understood why someone who has gone through hte same thing would inflict that sort of pain onto someone else.

hope>defeat: I think there’s always room for hope. Crying because we’re doomed and giving up is never fun.

now>later: Yes, save for retirement but don’t let that be your only goal. I had an ex-boyfriend that was always insisting that he would get to do all the things he wanted once he retired from his incredibly stable job. I’d rather see what Eastern Australian sand feels like on 25-year-old feet rather than 60-year-old feet

curosity>fear: I love that feeling where you’re on the fence and deciding whether your curosity is going to overcome your fear and you end up going with the former.

making excuses to travel>making excuses not to travel: Hey, I’ve never been to the Australia Zoo near Brisbane! I should remedy that, etc.

And for yours’:

messy > neat

making it up as you go along > having it all planned out

I agree so hard. Have a good weekend.

Gosh, I can’t wait to get back to Sydney and get myself a bike! x

snail mail > email

Hope you had a nice long weekend!
