Ever since my friend Amber got a matryoshka style doll tattoo I’ve been a little fixated on them. I’ve had sets of the russian stacking dolls since I was little, and I love how Amber got an updated one as an homage to her heritage! You can see her finished tattoo here, or if you’re looking for something a little more traditional, you could check out these listings…

clockwise from top left:

paperdoll print from munieca – $22
sticker & craft bags set from natsuriku2007 - $3.50
matryoshka photgraph from walking to jericho – $30
13″ laptop case from berties closet $22.99

I love the idea of a matryoshka tattoo, but I’m pretty sure that if I thought about it seriously my Baba would sense it and strangle me in my sleep.

Maybe a print for my craft room is safe, at least while I get my alarm system upgraded ;)

I LOVE these. I remember playing with them so much when I was little and I am loving how much they’re coming around lately. So cute.

There is a Russian Matryoshka gallery/store downtown with the most beautiful handmade dolls you’ve ever seen. My sister bought me one for my birthday awhile ago and it’s my favorite thing I own.

I collect babushkas! I have several prints, tea towels, dolls, etc. I also have an adorable set of babushka measuring cups and a few other little things! I just love them!

I just like that word: babushka! So much fun to say and type; the fact that the dolls are cute is just a bonus.

I absolutely adore matryoshka dolls, my grandmother passed her childhood ones down to me. I think the idea of getting one tattooed is wonderful and Amber’s is so beautiful.

Given I’m Ukranian (well, my great grandparents all were), I grew up having babushka dolls in my house. I bet i have one stowed away in a box somewhere … a good addition for the nursery, no?!

My friend did Semester at Sea when we were in college and she brought a stacking one back for me! Such a cool thing for her to bring back for me! Russia really intrigues me… I used to work w/ a girl from Russia, she said she woudl play tour guide if I came home with her to visit her country… might have to take her up on that!!

I visited Russia several years ago and I just had to buy a matryoshka doll. It was expensive, but totally worth it. I don’t have it on display right now because I still have so much work to do on my house, but I can’t wait to get it out!

My grandma has one of those dolls and it ends up getting so tiny! We used to have to take out the 2 smallest dolls so that my cousins wouldn’t eat them haha

I love them :) Is Baba your grandma or grandpa? I’ve never heard that used before. Neat!

Oh I forgot all about those little things!! I used to have a bunch of them when I was a kid. I didn’t even know that’s what they are called!

This post makes me smile. Have you downloaded the Matryoshka iPhone app? It’s definitely amusing. :)

I love these. I took a storytelling class last year and there are a TON of stories for kids that make use of them. This is just another reason that I should buy some.

LOVE LOVE LOVE! When I was a child I started collecting babushka dolls, after seeing them on Sesame Street. Lucky for me, I had a great aunt in Germany who often traveled to cool places in Europe and sent souvenirs back to Canada. I recently took a trip of my own to Prague, and found a lovely lavender lady to add to my collection.
Thanks for sharing these cool finds!
