The Delicious Kind

There’s something about the summer that just bubbles over, and when festival season starts you know that sweet time you’ve waited for all year is finally here. From folk music to theatre, food, and culture July and August can leave you breathless in the best way.

This past week was crazy- I almost finished a new hot pink cowl with the help of my new friends at knitting night, Mister was away on business which made for an interesting juggling of chores and puppies and work, and all of my friends who moved away in the past few years were back in town and catching up over wine on my deck. It was one of those weeks where by the start of the weekend I was ready to curl up and sleep for days… only who can sleep when there’s a theatre festival on??

I collected Mister from the airport and we headed downtown to wander through the endless pop-up shops while bumping into old theatre friends, and eating the most delicious cake (called cakettes) that I’ve ever had in my life from a shop called Cakeology. The graffiti outside the shop doesn’t do it justice at all – it needs at least a hundred more yum’s.

This weekend was a reminder of what makes life really delicious: old and new friends, cheap & tasty Indian food, and reuniting with the people who know you best.

Oh, and cake for breakfast when you need it :)

What on earth is a cakette? It sounds divine, anyway!

They’re *amazing* – they use the extra (crazy high end and delicious) batter from their cakes, bake them into little balls and then coat them in chocolate. The best thing is that they’re not as solid as you would expect them to be – they’re really soft and rich, like a cross between a cake and a truffle.

……and I think I know what I’m having for lunch lol :)

Your weekend sounds divine! That cake shop sounds fabulous and I’m interested in hearing more about the Fringe Festival. Sounds like so much fun. And you know what a huge supporter I am of deck drinking while catching up with friends.

Ah, this makes me miss spring! We have a local strawberry festival + carnival in May, and it’s amazing. Our next town events are in October (for Halloween … every shop downtown gives out candy to kids) and Christmas (a Christmas parade and the “Downtown Stroll”). Can’t wait!

OMG! I just Google “cakettes” and found a recipe for Sweet Chocolate Cakettes. They look soooo good. Specially on a day like today when my “monthly” visitor is making my otherwise happy wedding anniversary week.. not so happy.

Glad you had fun with your friends darling! xo. @luvandluxe

We have a place here in town (in my neighborhood actually!) called Saint Cupcake, and I think you would totally dig it. It’s one of those places that I love to take visitors to, because it’s just so adorable, and on Father’s Day the staff rocked fake mustaches in honor of all the (1970s) dads out there.

Over the weekend, my brother came into the kitchen and pronounced, I’m going to have pie for breakfast. And then he proceeded to cut himself a piece of berry pie and warm up a piece of deep dish pizza. For breakfast! Ahhh, summer. Pretty much anything goes. =)

That’s what I love about Juli and August all the festival and activities. Last night I saw George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess on the beach. It was so cool all these people on the blankets watching this big screen on the beach. It’s the small things that bring a little magic into our lives.

That cake place sounds awesome. I love the ‘yum’s on the exterior of the building. so cute!

Just a totally somewhat unrelated comment:

I tried on similar glasses that you are wearing in your last picture and I absolutely loved them. For the past 8 years I have been “sporting” those nerdy, college-student glasses with thick frames but I believe it’s finally time for more adult-y glasses. :)
