New Rules

in Her Life, Little House on the Prairie, Prairie Style, Stories About:

New Rules:

- Crocheting is fun, but knitting is still on top for now

- Popsicles are a summer food group

- As summer baking that doesn’t overheat the house, tarts are now mandatory

- When Mister suggests that we rearrange all the rooms on the second floor so we have a small little bedroom and a huge giant craft room, don’t ask questions. Just go with it.

- Dream big and out loud, and smile when people don’t get it. There’s no rule that says they have to :)

What are the summer rules you’re living by?

ps – sorry for the short post, we rearranged our entire upstairs this weekend and it was a crazy job! I’ll be back soon with more :)

I still need to learn how to crochet, but I’m stuck on knitting for now. That’s great that you’re getting a giant craft room! I would love to have something like that.

That blueberry tart looks amazing!

I want to learn to knit. It is a summer goal, though it may be pushed to fall. We shall see. I’ve been doing lots of quilting though.

The Mister suggested that?! Amazing! Please post photos of the craft room, I’d love to see it!

My summer rules include lots and lots of raspberries!

Summer Rules as a College Student in Houston:

Waking up before 8 a.m. is only done when absolutely necessary
Walking around the neighborhood barefoot is more than acceptable
Eating ice cream at any time of day is encouraged
Books and laying out by the pool are daily requirements
If you do not see friends every few days you are not doing your job

tarts and things…what a good idea. I am currently hating on doing the dishes…it’s just too hot!

I am sooo excited about your big craft room… this is the best news ever (I wish, we even had a spare room to turn into a craft room. We need to move ;)).

Also, I think you’ll get the hang of crocheting with a bit of practice. I prefer it over knitting by now.

My summer rules to live by:

* There can never be too much ice-cream :)

* Do what makes you feel good, no matter what other people say.

* Enjoy the outdoors as much as you can (if the heat is not melting you).

That tort looks delicious! This summer, my summer go-to recipes have been for homemade popsicles and cheesecake! Both are so refreshing, and don’t require any baking. :)

It’s funny you mentioned knitting and crocheting, because I just began to teach myself how to crochet this past week via tutorials on the Internet. I’ve learned the chain stitch and the single crochet stitch, and I’m going to attempt some new ones today. Even though you said you like knitting better, do you have any recommendations on a good item to crochet as a beginner? I was thinking of a scarf, but I don’t know if there’s something that would be easier for me.

Summer rules:

It’s okay to drink an entire pitcher of iced decaf tea without sharing it!

You can’t really hide from bug bites, so you might as well have fun outside.

Wow – how ambitious of you guys to rearrange furniture. I get tired just thinking about that! :P

The crocheting looks great – what are you working on? I am about maybe 1/2 done with my first baby blanket? I’ll have to email you a photo. I like crocheting, but I still much prefer knitting…

Summer rules are:
- If buying lots of fruit pushes the grocery bill above my budgeted amount, that is ok because fruit buying season is limited.
- It’s ok to break the ‘no drinking while marathon training’ if drinks are frozen and/or consumed on a patio or deck. :)

Our summer rules?
There are no rules, but there are plenty of allowances.

Beer at 10am? IT’s OK! It’s summer!
Clean and folded laundry still sitting on the stairs a week later? IT’s OK! It’s summer!
10lbs heavier than I was in March? IT’s OK! It’s summer! (Except – NOT OK!)

Your rules and house makeover sound WAY MORE productive than what I’ve been doing.

Popsicles are definitely a food group. I actually made puppy popsicles for my poor, roasted pups this weekend – would you like my recipe?

My summer rules:

When it’s 100F outside, cold beer is required
Cucumber sandwiches are a great dinner
A flirty dress and sandals is a great uniform
When in doubt, knit a shawl

P.S. You’re inspiring me to try my hand at crochet! So many lovely shawls have crocheted edgings and I’m too chicken to try it!

I love your pictures! Your blueberry tart looks amazingly delicious.

My only summer rules so far:
-Go to bed early so I can take advantage of the sunrise.
-Even though it’s one million degrees here in Southern Florida, get outside! My little guy loves the outdoors but it’s easy to forget that & stay inside where it’s cool.
-Cook more. Healthy, light summer foods.

What a lovely Mister.

Summer rules for us: bbq when we can, bake when it is cool and freeze it so it is ready for the hot days! Of course these days I’m also baking to get ready for #2 and today, since it is cool-ish out, I’m making veggie soup stock to freeze. I can’t resist soup – even in the summer.

YOU CAN CROCHET IN CIRCLES! I should probably be less excited about this, considering I’m still working on my first and only crochet project (a scarf), but I have so far only crocheted in lines. This circle idea is super cute. What are you making? If it is hat-like, any chance you’d want to post a cute ‘super-easy how-to’ tutorial, or something? Please? Pleeeaaase? Or, rather, point me in the direction of the place that taught you to crochet in circles?

That tart looks absolutely amazing! I’ve been wanting to bake but with temperatures reaching the 100s, it just hasn’t seemed like a good idea. I’ve never made a tart before – I might have to try it out.

I love these photos! Just beautiful. And I think it’s super exciting that you’re going to have a huge craft room now! I mean, it sort of makes sense…you only really just sleep in your room, and crafting etc takes up a huge part of your life, so why not have a huge space to do it in?? I’m really excited for you and can’t wait to hear more about it! <3

-Watermelon is also a food group
-Flip-flops can be dressy and/or relaxed
-Eating outdoors is a must
-Camping becomes my job/life
