Red Wine Sangria

by Kyla Roma on July 27, 2010

in Hands On!, recipes

I wanted to make sure that when I  picked July to master sangria, I did it thoroughly. There were different batches drawn up, dutiful sampling done, and I can verify that both this and the white wine sangria from last week are delicious! This has been a lot of fun, and this post marks a month where I’ve followed through with all of my goals, from learning to crochet to mastering sangria.

It’s wonderful how mastering something so small can make you feel so accomplished.

This recipe comes from my good friend Lisa at Lisa’s Yarns who is training to run a marathon & knows how to mix a mean drink! For a more traditional take on sangria, this is where you want to be..

Lisa’s Red Wine Sangria

Grab…
2 large juice oranges
1 large lemon
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup Triple Sec
1 bottle inexpensive, fruity red wine (merlot is best)

Okay!
1. Slice one of the oranges and juice the other.
2. Add the orange, lemon and sugar to large pitcher, and mash gently with wooden spoon until fruit releases some juice and sugar dissolves, about 1 minute.
3. Stir in orange juive, Triple Sec and wine.
4. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Question:
I love writing up recipes and I’ve been considering posting a few more summer appetizer & snack recipes, but I would love to know what you think. Would you like a new recipe every couple of weeks, or is this a nice every now and then thing? Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Oh! I forgot like, half of my comment content. Ahem.

Sangria is probably one of the greatest inventions of all time. Forget the wheel and electricity! The wheel can’t cool you down on a hot summer day, and electricity doesn’t make you giddy and giggly and clumsy (well, thats how I get when I drink sangria anyways..)

Secondly, your newfound crocheting skills are admirable! I would LOVE to learn how to crochet, but without my Mom nearby to teach me, I don’t know how successful I’ll be. For hands on skills like that, its tricky for me to learn the basics from the internet, ya know? Maybe you and Amber could show me a thing or two, if we meet on a patio someday!

I would love to teach you how to crochet or to knit! You should come to knit nights sometime- they’re every Thursday at Where The Wool Things Are in the exchange. The owner is really sweet & puts out apps for snacking, and will teach you how to knit if you’re not sure how. I’m not going to be there this week, but I will be the next. If you’re feeling up to it, come out! Then we can talk about our incredible skill over sangria later on ;)

Yes, yes, and yes! Please post more recipes. I will be trying this for my hubby’s birthday coming up. He loves sangria and nothing would make me happier than to make it for him.

Also, how to you store your recipes? Computer? Binder? I usually cook four nights a week, but I’m wanting to make it six. This will not only save us more money, but help me get back to my goal weight. Anyways, so yeah.. can you let us know how you keep all these delicious recipes organized? Thanks darling! and great post as usual.

I definitely can Veronica! :)
I tend to print out any new recipes that I use, and if I like them I add them into a small binder that I made- I’ll definitely post about it. Thanks for the idea!

I think if you posted a recipe once a month, that’d be plenty. More than that and I think you’d run the risk of becoming a little too “food blog”, if you know what I mean? I do love the recipe sharing idea, though :D
