Ashley’s White Wine Sangria

July 21, 2010

in Hands On:,recipes

For the past two months I’ve been swearing that I’ll master sangria, and while it took me a while to get around to it, last week I finally made good! I’ve had friends in from out of town and thought that it was the perfect chance to try my first of two recipes – one red wine based (coming next week), and one with white wine.

When I first blogged about wanting to step up my mixing skills my friend Ashley immediately offered a white wine sangria recipe that she was sure I had to try. And it came with a warning: this is boozy AND delicious. And she’s not joking. This is one of the most delicious things in my fridge right now, and it’s going to be a new summer staple.

One note: I made it without any soda, and have been adding club soda to taste in each glass (about 3/4 sangria, 1/4 club soda). It’s the perfect ratio for me & it doesn’t go flat- not that it stays in the fridge that long :)

Ashley’s White Wine Sangria

Grab
- 1 bottle of cheap white wine
- 1/2 cup light rum
- 1/2 cup triple sec
- 1 can frozen lemonade
- 1 cup lemon lime soda
- assorted unripe fruits (limes, oranges, strawberries, grapes – whatever you like!)

Okay!
1. Add fruit to pitcher, followed by triple sec and rum. Let sit for minimum of 15 minutes.
2. Add wine to fruit and alcohol mixture. Let sit for as long as possible so flavours can mix, 8 hours is recommended
3. Add lemonade and soda last, to taste.

This looks/sounds amazing! I’ve been wanting to make sangria. We’re getting a grill soon, so our outdoor space is moving along nicely, and I’d love to make this once we can grill out some more!

I prefer ripe fruits, so that the sangria is more fruit-flavored! For the bubbly part, I found a peach-flavored champagne that works quite nicely too! :)

Oh! It sounds so yummy. If it weren’t for this parasite incubating in my belly, I’d be making batches of the stuff!

I am SO making this as soon as I get a chance. I effing love wine and rum… together? How can it fail? Do you think it would work with white zinfandel + bacardi?

I had a peach basil white wine sangria at this restaurant in downtown LA, and I’ve been wanting a recipe for something similar for the summer ever since. THIS SOUNDS DELICIOUS and perfect for summer! Thank Kyla and Ashley!

Sounds yummeh, Sangria makes wine taste good. Otherwise I’m not really a fan of many types of alcohol. People look at me strangely for that. Thanks for the recipe! I’ll be trying it when the weather warms up in the southern hemisphere =)

I’m trying this out today! For whatever reason, my grocery store was out of frozen lemonade, so I had to get frozen raspberry lemonade. I’m hoping it’ll still turn out well. The wine/alcohol/fruit mixture is in the process of sitting for now. :) Thanks so much for sharing! I’ve wanted to try a sangria recipe for a loooong time.

Hi Kyla. I was brought to your blog by Ashley (who’s recipe you featured here) and I have been reading your blog for about 5 months now. It has been a pleasure! I read this recipe and little did I know that the Ashley you were referring to was my best friend! (I did not click on the link to her blog). She shared your blog post on google reader and here I am! Also, I did not realize that the sangria in this post is the sangria I drank at her Kentucky Derby Party back in May! I can tell you that it is SURELY delicious and DEFINITELY boozy.

Anyway, hello and hi!

Rachelle
