/Swoon: Beauty Salons

If I could wish a frivolous wish, it would be for a vintage style hair salon. Everything would be in pinks and yellows and blues, bright coloured sorbet would be served in old fashioned pyrex mugs while you waited, and we could sit under dryers chatting and laughing over the din.

If you could open one of these, it would really make my day. I would make excuses to be there all the time, and I would know everyone by name. I’d make sure there was always fresh coffee on too, just as a public service. Ash would even volunteer as your mascot!

(Mal would volunteer too, but he’s prone to shouting at strangers in his little puppy voice)

I would even be happy to take your opening shift if you had been out too late, and in my experience that’s the stuff of real love.

What’s your frivolous wish for today?

Ooh, that sounds fabulous! My frivolous wish for the day is to be able to stay home and do nothing but blog, read, catch up on Netflix, and spend time with the hubby (all while getting paid of course!)

I’m very good friends with the owner of the salon where I go. I’ve been going to his salon for so long that everyone there really does know my name. And I kind of love that feeling as I say hello to people and they know exactly who I am! I’d hang out there any day!

I love going places where people know me and I’d love to spend the majority of my day. I saw a vintage kitchen set up the other day and immediately thought of you.

My frivolous wish for the day would be to spend the day outside reading and playing with my dog, the weather is supposed to be beautiful and there is rain in the forecast for this weekend and beyond.

One of my sets of grandparents definitely had those Pyrex mugs. Maybe they still do.

There is a salon in Vancouver on Main called The Beehive (http://www.beehivehairlounge.ca/index.html) that has the vintage feel. From what I recall, the walls are blue and the chairs are vintage vinyl. I don’t think they serve sorbet, but maybe you should stop in when you are in town. :)

Wish of the day? Three months of summer vacation that is not interrupted by work, school, chores, illness, friend or family drama. Three months of summer vacation full of reading, swimming, day trips and road trips, piles of books, lemonade, cookies and the feeling of total relaxation.

Let’s go find our genie in a bottle and make it happen, k?

AHHH! One of the girls I work with (she has her aesthetician’s license, and is working on her nail license) wants to start a salon/spa with a vintage feel…but hers will be more Marilyn Monroe/Audrey Hepburn/Pin-up…which I support 100%

I desperately want this too!

My frivolous wish would be to have a bed and breakfast/vintage store that my son and I could run together. He’s 12, but he talks about it all the time.

Come to think of it, I suppose my wish is to have his wish come true…

My frivolous wish is for…well…hmmm. A trip to Paris & upon my return, finding that all my belongings had been moved to my brand new cottage by the sea, with a library that has one of those rolling ladders, and a kitchen full of brightly colored dishes and all sorts of lovely things.

My best friend got married last May & we had all of our hair done in a vintage-inspired beauty salon in my hometown. It was one of the cutest salons I have ever visited:

My frivolous wish today? A live-in personal chef! (Who just also happens to be a personal trainer & a life coach & knows how to blow dry my hair to perfection)

Lets see…well I would love something simple right now, like a hammock and the awesome book I’ve been reading. Indirect, warm sunlight would be involved, as would my cats who would be napping on my legs, and a perfect iced tea would be sweating in a glass beside me. A nap would be involved at some point. Siiiiigh. I wonder if my boss would believe me that today is a Jewish holiday called “hammock day”, and I that my religion insists that I take the day off in observance.

I had to giggle because camp definitely has those mugs. We have tray after tray after tray of them for everyone who wants to drink coffee/hot cocoa/cappuccino during their stay. I had assumed we picked them because they were cheap … apparently we were just being vintage ;-)

I would wish for a bedroom decked out in vintage awesomeness or perhaps just a playroom of sorts. Rainbow Brite-esque roller skates. Warm oranges, reds, and yellows.

Or a car. I think I could use a car these days.

My grandpa just bought a house in Saskatchewan that had a vintage style hair salon in the basement! Of course he gutted it and re-did the whole thing, but it was very cool!

Oh how I LOVE frivolous wishes!

I wish we could all dress in vintage pin-up styles (like the women in mad men) all the time! But there was just a button I could press to make it happen so I didn’t actually have to do all the work that does with it :).

OR…I wish I could just have the time to sit on my couch in my adorable apartment every day and read and read and read, then write. Then read some more. It’s just hard to figure out who would pay for the adorable apartment if I did that. I guess the small amount of time I do have makes me appreciate it more…so there is the silver lining :).

My frivolous wish is that I want to spend my days just caring for my daughter, doing as she pleases… flying kites, eating cupcakes, exploring in gardens, feeling the sand between our toes…. throwing caution to the wind and tossing work away too…

Just living each and every moment, having no responsibilities. Being the Mama I wish I could be. x

My parents’ cabin is pyrex central. They bought it from this really old man and he sold it w/ everything in it… so there is a whole lot of old pyrex and things like that!

Myfrivolous wish is to have a new wardrobe full of fun spring dresses and skirts. The skirts must come with the tops because I am terrible at pairing skirts w/ tops. Like really terrible! A new summery wardrobe would be so much fun, though! I shoudl really do your 6 dresses 6 months challenge. :)

I used to work in a salon for 9 years. When I finally finished school, I gave up on doing hair. I wish salons were this pretty now. Now, it’s all about modernism and wearing all black.
If you opened one up, I’d love to work for you :D
