Edmonton FEELS like spring right now. I've been crushing all of the ice layers on the puddles.

The best way I like to stay sane in winter is going out and enjoying it!
Freezing your butt off is much more lovely when you have a warm and cozy house to come into ;)

I must say it has been even a colder winter here in Louisiana, USA. Surprisingly, we have had snow, twice this year. Great article and great suggestions. We all need more moisturizer, yes. Also I have discovered many people suffering from dehydration this winter so, I would say please still drink plenty of water and eat high water content foods to stay hydrated. Thanks for such a great article and wonderful site too.

This is my first year up in Alaska, being from the south my experience with winter has been very limited. Even though this winter has been mild for Alaska, seeing snow every day since I arrived has been a total culture shock to me. Although it does allow for some interesting photo ops.

My neck of the woods in NC is experiencing one of the crappiest winters that most people can remember. It's gloomy and snowed more often -- including right now as I type this -- than other years. I'm ready for spring. I've adjusted to NC-living (as opposed to PA) and I want my NC weather back!

I'm afraid to say that yes, spring looks like it might be on the horizon here. My hands have been awful this winter, I've sat near radiators to keep warm and it's made it worse so I've been using vaseline too (and ironically planned to blog about it today).

I've also kept myself busier with stuff than usual, I wouldn't call them projects, but not wanting to go out has made me focus on things that I wouldn't have so I'm glad it happened. Roll on spring though.

I can't believe how rough of a winter it has been in DC. BUT today (how convenient that today is March 1) is the first day of the year that I am not wearing any gloves. That's huge for me because I am freezing so quickly most of the time.

My tips for staying warm: Wrap yourself in a blanket, make a cup of hot chocolate and watch TV all day. Maybe do some knitting in between. :) Oh, by the way, we should totally start a knitting club. ;)

I definitely use my wintertime to reconnect with people during my hibernation and I also really try to keep my skin moisturized. When my skin cracks, I hate that feeling.

The winter where I live has been mild, to the point where it's a little scary because living in the desert we depend on snowfall in the winter to keep us going. And this year it just hasn't been there.

However, we have won (although I'm not sure this is something to say win in relation to) the worst air quality in the country. So that's another reason I miss the snow, because it helps clear the air.

I love your list of things to keep you sane. And I'm going to pray next year that I'll get a chance to use more of them.

Hullo :)

I'm excited to have just found your blog. It's spring here in SF Bay. The cherry blossoms came out a couple weeks ago and we're getting spring rains mixed with sunny days that are warming up with each appearance.

I used to live in the Wasatch front area of Utah, where it's still winter. One of the best things I found to do was to still go outside every day, no matter how cold or dreary it might seem. Winter is actually a very beautiful time of year in its own way. Going out in it with that in mind can help create a new appreciation for it :)

And when I would be inside I spent a lot of time reading, playing poker with friends and family, and learning new things to make and eat! The wood burning stove and record player always helped as well.
