Happy almost Friday the 13th! Inspired by Mandy & some tweets we exchanged a while ago, here are a few things you might not have guessed about me:
1. I’ve never had a guy introduce himself & offer to buy me a drink. Does that happen in real life? I stopped going to the bar a while ago, but you would think that would happen once in a girl’s life.
2. I went to an all girls, uniformed, full on private high school. It was really intense in all the ways you think it would be.
3. I’m a politics major. You might not know from reading my blog, but you would if you talked to me. I can be incredibly analytical. I don’t know how my friends deal with it. I like to break things down, consider the source and the context, and then examine an issue them from all sides. It was demanded of me for three years & now it’s engrained. Or that’s my excuse, at least.
4. I’ve seen Almost Famous about fifty thousand times.
5. I’m always vaguely aware that I’m coming across all wrong. I’m over eager, I say the wrong things, I’m too strong, too loud, and then too quiet. Reading old e-mails and blogs always kind of astonishes me… and yet you all seem to have a very good handle on who I am. It begs the question: am I really just that awkward?
6. We didn’t have cable TV at my mom’s house until I was in my early teens. I was always pretty sure it was child abuse.
7. In spite of rigorous schooling, I speak no French and am terrible at arithmetic. Under the correct amount of pressure, basic mental math can reduce me to tears. It’s beyond sad. As is my only being able to speak in the French present tense, which I maintain is only a reflection of my very admirable and zen desire to stay in the moment.
8. I use a wacom tablet instead of a mouse. Buy your own for $50 and bring it to your work, it will give you instant tech street cred that you cannot fathom.
9. I have strong feelings about a lot of things that don’t make any impact on day to day life. Prime examples: advertising in personal blogs, the monarchy, the price of down filled jackets, how my feedburner subscription stats are reported in google reader, people telling other people how to raise their children and Kevin Smith. I could easily post every day, but I figure who really cares? It’s very Canadian of me.
10. I’ve never been to Toronto. I actually haven’t seen a lot of Canada! I’ve driven from Manitoba to Vancouver, and have been to Montreal, Quebec City (this would be my heaven if I could communicate with anyone there) but I tap out there. I really need to head east to explore some time.
What’s something I wouldn’t guess about you?

I’ve never even heard of a wacom tablet! Thanks for the info … gosh you have such tech street cred. ;)
And I’m with EP… I don’t think you’re awkward at all. We’re all our own biggest critics…
I think we all have a little bit of #9, but I love your examples :)
#1 DOES happen in real life, but it’s almost never as romantic/cute as you’d think… more often than not (at least in my experience) it’s more creepy than anything.
A lot of people are surprised when they find out I was a cheerleader in high school. I guess I don’t fit the stereotype.
I don’t know…I’m going to have to think about this one, I always feel like such an open book. Hmm…perhaps my own blog post is coming on… ;)

Almost Famous is one of the only movies I’ve ever craved. As in, there’s been moments when I absolutely had to put in the DVD player or else the world would have imploded.

I am exactly with you on #4 and #6!
Something most people do not know about me… hrm. My emphasis as an English major in college was Jewish literature, but I’m not Jewish. I did consider converting because I found it so interesting and appropriate.
I certainly found some of those quite interesting, and unexpected. It’s always nice to learn something different about another person. And considering my blogging rut lately, I think I might do this myself… (I hope you don’t mind!)
