This weekend was up and down dreamy, I can’t even express it. The heat makes me so happy that I could curl up in a sunbeam for a month and want for nothing. My old friend warmth is amazing for my little body and heart- and who knew it also took the edge off the capacity for crazy that two Schipperke puppies have?

This weekend was all barbecuing (veggie) burgers, baking potatoes on the grill, and Mister playing with some really outstanding steak from a local butcher. For the record, after visiting said butcher? I’m even more sure that I’ll never eat meat. I wanted to attempt to help prep the meat for the kitchen which went similarly poorly – Mister has promised me that it’s endearing.

This week I got together with my three best girlfriends and had a Sex and the City chocolate fondue and sparking wine evening in, a birthday celebration for one of my best friends,  and then followed up on Sunday with a barbecue for my Dad at our little house. The puppies were amazingly well behaved once everyone had arrived, and eventually stopped running around in circles and attempting to steal our brie. My family was excited to see how the garden had come up, and how, with the grass seed growing in, the backyard is finally looking like a backyard. Between the family and friends this week I really felt like I was in Vegas again- the amount of love I have for the people in my life is staggering. Add some good wine and food and just being around them is heavenly.

Kyla-Em'sBirthday

I was running through a back lane in the village district with my best friends, a trail of light falling off our sparklers in the humid summer night, laughing we were children on a beach. Boyfriends and husbands were laughing as we wrote our names and made hearts in the thick dark space between us.

As I slipped into the night and Mister took my hand I felt truly lucky. Lucky and resolved that I don’t have to let this feeling slip away. For me, there is more value in playing with sparklers than in seriousness. There is more value in these magic summer moments than in focusing on worry and concern.  There is a lot of learning in the moments when I can pause and appreciate how lucky I really am.

I used to write my name in sparklers during the summer nights too!

Love your photos (as always) and am dying to know what Yellow Tail Bubbles is? I love Yellow Tail but haven’t seen the “Bubbles,” name before!

I’m glad you were able to recreate the Vegas feeling; you most definitely deserve it!

Miss you!!!

Writing your names in sparklers will never go out of style. And the grilled veggies look scrumptious same with the champers. Yum!

Your life is so dreamy. Your garden, your adventures, your house, your family — everything about your life is so dreamy! I wish we lived closer, because I could use a bit of dreaminess in my life.

Love your photo’s, they are always so beautiful!

Sounds like a magical weekend, I love weekends like that!

PS: I’ve been meaning to email you back about the sweet comment you left me! I know my blog is quite “out there” especially for work reading! I encounter the same problem with some blogs! Haha, I totally understand that you can’t comment often but it was so sweet of you to let me know you’re there :-)

I’m just sitting here, staring at your gorgeous, lush, buttery lettuce and the yummy wine and everything else, sighing, and thinking of ways I can create such happiness, whimsy and dreaminess in my own life. This is completely lovely.

What a great weekend, I miss sparklers! Your garden looks so great in fact, my boyfriend was just walking by my computer and the pictures caught his eye and he walked across the room to get a look and ask about it.

What a great party and weekend! Does Yellow Tail really make bubbles?? Love the sparklers too.

Oh and you can totally be my skinny jean-wearing grandma. When I find a guy I really like, I’ll fly you in to meet him and approve of him :)

You know, I always wanna experience one of those all girls satc fondue moment, never got to do it with my best friends. Wonder how to start.

ps. Happy father’s day to your dad!:)

This was a beautiful post. It’s refreshing to see someone focusing on those happy parts of life and taking it in like something you would only see in a movie. It inspires me to want to do the same.

[Reply]

That picture of you with the sparkler is divine! I love it! Your lettuce looks great! and that asparagus on the grill looks delicious. It’s one of my favorites things. I’m glad your family was able to come by and see the fruits (or I guess actually vegetables ;) ) of your labor in the backyard.

Sarah

Pretty cool post. I just came by your blog and wanted to say
that I’ve really enjoyed browsing your blog posts. Any way
I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!

I just came in from grilling up a veggie burger myself. I can’t get enough of the great outdoors, even if it’s just a sun deck in the middle of the city.

By the way, your girls night sounds amazing.

[Reply]

wow…amazing photos. you are adorable!

“the amount of love I have for the people in my life is staggering.” – this is the best line I’ve ever in forever. Truly. Such a wonderful, wonderful post I read it twice and smiled hard the whole time. How lucky to have such a weekend such as this and how even luckier are you for realizing it’s greatness while it all happened?

Here’s to many more fantastic weekends this summer, lovely!

[Reply]

This is such a great post. It’s great to see someone taking the time to truly enjoy the every day moments of their life.

Looks like a lot of fun… I absolutely love girls’ nights!

Oh, Kyla, that sounds like a wonderful time. I love that y’all wrote your names with the sparklers — I used to do that when I was a kid, and I really want to play with some now. Maybe on the 4th.

Thanks so much for sharing this! I hope this weekend as amazing as the past one!

[Reply]

Aw, this post brought such a smile to my face. It’s so encouraging to see someone else discovering exactly what it is that matters in this world.

And that is, of course: love, happiness and childlike joy. Here’s to a wonderful summer filled with all these things!

(You are too lovely for words.)

[Reply]

ahhhh sparkler pictures are so fun!

[Reply]

That picture of you with the sparkler is gorgeous. Sounds like one perfect weekend.

[Reply]

Can we trade weekends? Because I spent last weekend wishing that it
wasn’t 60 degrees and raining for the 30 millionth day in a row. And of
course, constructing an ark.
