When I initially started this blog, I avoided the obligatory “Dear Blog, This is Why You Exist” post, and shortly thereafter it imploded into a vortex of technical issues. So the second time around at attempting a launch, I’m not going to fall into the same trap. This blog has a beginning, and it’s beginning is the end of another blog.
Last July I started writing online – about my new house, my upcoming wedding, my puppies – all sorts of stuff. I wanted to have a craft blog, but with my wedding fast approaching it quickly turned into a personal blog. I found the 20 Something Bloggers community and started to make friends and, like a version of Alice armed with a laptop, I kind of tripped into a whole other world – and it was wonderful. I was working in a job that wasn’t fulfilling me, so I let blogging step in – it was a high reward part time job, and what I tended to think about while I drifted in and out of tasks at work.
Slowly, my blog started to take up a lot of time. I loved the community and started spending an hour here and an hour there – but the mental space that writing was taking up started to grow and grow. And then I had a chance at a job that would be really, incredibly, intimidatingly challenging. Engaging. Exciting. So, after much encouragement from you fine folk I jumped at the chance – and then I totally fell off the edge of the blogosphere.
It took me about a month of being offline to feel like I could come back to it, and then when I did, shockingly, my internet friends were still here!
While I have been around and reachable, I think a formal update is over due- so this is what has happened from March until (almost) May in my life:
- I’m over a month in at my new job, working in marketing in the entertainment industry. It is exhilarating & exhausting, and over all much more than I imagined it would be. It was definitely the right move – thank you for all of your encouragement!
- My husband, Mister, is very good and the puppies are turning one year old (!!!) on Sunday
- I’ve started getting a lot more into fashion blogs & into pulling together my work clothes
- I’ve started jogging three times a week
- I’ve firmed up my vegetarianism and have stepped a little closer to being vegan – I’ve completely stopped eating dairy but I’m still eating eggs, provided they’re free range
I don’t think I’m going to be so explicitly verbose here on a regular basis, but I thought that it was probably a good way to bring you guys all up to date. And just in the mean time, I’ve been tagged in that take a picture now! meme a few times – so here you are, this is me fresh as a daisy without any makeup:

I was tagged by the wonderful Lily, Alexis, & Apricot Tea and the idea is to just take a picture of yourself without primping and taking 100,000 pictures – just a picture of you as you are, at the moment you find out about this (or when you get off work, let’s be honest).

First of all, you are so pretty it’s kind of ridiculous.
And then I think it’s great you are creeping closer to us and our vegan ways, it’s like an adventure where you feel healthier and all that stuff. It sounds like you have made all kinds of happy “improvements” and that makes me happy for you. :)
I think of the blogging community kind of like an alcoholics anonymous community. Not that I ever was a participant in AA meetings. But, I think there’s a community there. A group of people who will always be there to support you. During good times and bad. And while they might worry about you during an extended absence, they will welcome you with open arms when you return. No judgments. Only love. I, for one, am glad you’re back. You make the blogging world a better place.
I’m glad you’re jumping back into blogging. I just love the community we have all created!
I have been trying to explain to myself and my friends/family how the 20sb community literally changed my life, and there you go – summing it up in one very simple, yet very perfect metaphor: Alice, armed with a laptop. Giving credit where credit is due, I may quote you on that at some point.
And girlfriend, you are so very naturally beautiful!
And finally – I’m intrigued by this veggie/vegan move. I have much more to say on this, but will reserve it for an email – let’s just say I’d like to pick your brain!
xoxo :)
I second Nilsa’s comments. The blogging community is a great one. One where people understand that sometimes bloggers need to take a step back. I’ve found bloggers to be very supportive and incredibly welcoming. I am always happy when they decide to come back and more often than not, I am still in contact with them even if they don’t. That said, I’m glad that you back. =)
Like I’ve said before, I’m glad you’re back. You’ve been missed terribly and I know for me the blogging world just wasn’t the same.
Also, you’re gorgeous!!! al’naturale!
You’re adorable. Without any make-up on, I look like a fish.. This is one meme that I pray I’m not tagged for.
Also, welcome back to Wonderland.
So I guess I’ve been unknowingly participating in a meme for most of my life? Cool.
I completely understand what you mean by blogging and 20sb being a time-suck. A great one, but still. I think this is the first blog comment I’ve left in a week.
Hi Kyla! I miss your regular posts but I admire you for knowing what you need to shed in order to thrive. Glad everything seems to be going well!
Michelle – The only reason I haven’t been back & posting a couple times a week is that my blog has been wiped a few times due to database issues that (ahem) I caused, now that it seems stable I will be really back – just not posting 700+ word entries four times a week = )
Yay! You’re back! And love the picture!
Okay, I’ll play in the no make-up meme thing. =) I think I’ve said it before but I’m super glad to have you back online. Glad you are enjoying the new career and that all is well in Roma land!
So glad that you are back into the blogging thing again :) And you are gorgeous!
you’re so lovely! welcome back!
Yay! You did it! & I have yet to see on person that I tag look horrendous. Everyone looks beautiful without makeup on, & you are no exception. :]
I’m happy that you’re back in the blog scene again. I have missed your candid posts. But more than anything… I am SO EXCITED TO MEET YOU IN LAS VEGAS IN JUNE!!!!!!!
(I just had to get out of my system!)
You said that so perfectly “I kind of tripped into a whole other world”.
I had no idea about this amazing blogging community when I started blogging and now I am absolutely and completely hooked into it. It can be very time consuming though, that part I will agree with!
Cute picture :-)
Oh boy! I guess participating in a meme means I’ll have to blog again! Haha. :) I’m glad you are back in action on here (as you know!). Keep ‘em coming.
Have I mentioned that I’m so glad you’re back? No? Well, then, let me say, I’m so glad you’re back!
Eee, I’m so glad you’re back. Oo, but the text on your blog is REALLY light and super hard to read. I suffered through it, because I adore you, but just a heads up haha.
It’s just good that you’re back in any capacity and congratulations on all the wonderful and fulfilling happenings in your life. You’re as adorable as ever in any picture, and I give you massive props for heading towards vegan territory/
Welcome back m’lady! I’m so glad the new job is working out. I’d been meaning to ask you about it! And go you turning all vegan! I always flirt with the idea, but dairy and eggs are hidden in so many things! Ahh too much work for this girl. But I am trying to be much better with the dairy since it does bad things to me anyway. Well anyways: welcome back. P.S. I can’t wait to meet your cute little face in Vegas!
*Big sigh of relief*
And yeeei! You’re back :D
Goodness, you are beautiful.
I’m so happy to see your blog again! :)
And I wish everyone would stop talking about Vegas. It’s like the Who’s Who of my internet BFFs. Seriously. I’m tempted to skip one of my closest friend’s weddings to come. Haha. How awful would I be?? :)
Since you are re-introducing yourself back into the bloggy world, I figured this would be a good time for me to de-lurk myself!!
I started following your old blog really late in the game and would occassionally visit your tumblr and I just think you are so refreshing, sweet and creative.
I’m so glad things are working out for you in the new job :-)
why can’t i look that good without make up on? seriously!? AND with a silly look on my face. No fair. :p Lol….
Awww, I adored this post. And Nilsa said it better than I could have. Definitely glad you are back!
I’m glad you are back. Great picture! My hair looks just like that when I get out of the shower.
You look adoreable. *hug*
sometimes I wonder why I began my blog, but I’m glad I did! I’ve met some great people that I probably wouldn’t have otherwise, and I do love hearing random stories from others :)
Ohh man! I completely forgot about this. I just remembered! I’m going to write on my hand ‘take ugly picture of self’!
