{tights: walmart, dress: thrifted, sweater: mens Gap (my husbands that shrunk in the wash!),
broaches: beaded cotton flowers – self made}
It’s taken a long time for my style to evolve. I never really thought about what I was wearing – I would throw something on without thinking, trudge off to wherever I was going and then trudge back. A lot of the time I felt frumpy or out of place, too casual or too buttoned up. But finding blogs like Apricot Tea, Emma Nygren, & Lookbook opened up the way I thought about personal style.
There were people all over the internet with all kinds of body shapes, in all different places looking totally unique and really gorgeous in their own ways. Why was I feeling so awkward when they were so effortless??
I’ve started small – What colours, textures, shapes do I like? How do they make me feel, and what works best for my body? I’ve started taking pictures of my outfits to figure out what works and what doesn’t, and why – and while I feel a little silly it has helped an astounding amount.
This is one of my favourite combinations of cozy & pretty, it makes rainy spring days infinitely more tolerable and goes well with a freshly brewed pot of black tea, preferably Assaam.

I have decided that you could totally be a model. Love this photo, love the clothes. I am going to pick your brain about appropriate fashion for myself. I’m not the best… some days I LOVE what I wear and others, well, not so much. Maybe I just need to learn how to shop =)
Either way, my dear, you look stunning and lovely in this photo.
I’ve been thinking of adding some kind of fashion element to my blog or tumblr, it definitely helps you see how you are evolving what you like the most.
You are stunning, by the way, I can’t believe you ever went through a frumpy or out of place phase.
You look adorable! Seriously. Love your outfit!!! And I’ve been
meaning to tell you that your haircut totally suits you.
I feel inspired to be more concious of my personal style. I’m gonna
check out those blogs you mentioned.
Your style in this is wonderful! You look put together, with unique and interesting details, without being too over the top. Your glasses are beautiful, too.
Beautiful! I absolutely adore your style and sometimes wish mine was more feminine like that because you pull it off so beautifully! Truly though, if I could live my life in sneakers, skinny jeans and a graphic t-shirt, I’d probably be set. :) Now, I just need to learn how to “class up” that preferred outfit…
That outfit is super adorable! The skirt looks really comfy, which is the way all skirts should be if you ask me!
I had no clue you started a new blog over here. I’m reading now!! I adore your style. Like you, it took me a while to evolve and yet I still am.
man, between you and wanderlusting i may actually get inspired to start dressing nicely / like a grownup one of these days…! that is such a sweet, feminine outfit.
I love that outfit Like you said it’s the perfect combo of cute, comfy, stylish, and feminine. I’m still working on developing my own style, and I’m definitely adding this look to my “like” list. :)
I love this outfit. Pretty. Professional. Comfy cozy.
You are so stylish miss.
my style is slowly evolving. i wish i could have thought of the outfit you have on! i wish i could look at things and think “wow” I could do this or that with it.
I have a sweater of Jonathan’s from the GAP that shrunk as well! It’s the most comfortable sweater ever. I love it.
You look great! I’m excited that you’re doing more fashion based stuff here. I’ve always wondered what was in your closet. ;]
I love this outfit. You look comfy, yet ready to hit the town, you look warm, but still very fashionable. I’ve been thinking about these same things recently. Your hair is amazing and I love the glasses.
That is a gorgeous outfit, seriously. It looks comfy but sophisticated and sweet.
Lovely, Kyla! Your style is inspiring. I love the simplicity, as well as the personal touch of adding something hand-made.
I feel as if my “style” is non-existent. I think I dress too young for my age (and for the fact that I’m now married). I’d like to learn how to dress more age-appropriate without looking too old.
that is super pretty! i like the conservative colors too.
You definitely have a sense of style. I’ve always thought that. You have a way of taking basics and sprucing them up with something unique. I love that about you.
you look adorable
Lovely! Chic, elegant but still cute and fun at the same time. Also, I have the same wall colour in my bedroom!
Sorry it took me so long to make my way over here, Kyla! You are incredibly classy with your new fashion and hair style. I’m with Nora. You are model material.
Love what you put together!
It definitely takes some time to find you’re own style, likes, dislikes. But oh so worth it!
I love your outfit – looks very comfortable!
I hate clothes right now because I’ve gained weight in the last few years and refuse to really go on a shopping spree since I refuse to stay at this weight. I’m looking forward to when I can though. :)
I’ve always felt the same way! I’m in the place where I “know” what my style is, but I have the hardest time achieving it. You look phenomenal.
Oh! That outfit is super cute :) Go you for taking the time to work out what works for you!
I love the outfit and the photo is awesome! I love how you put the little word blurbs on the photo. Makes me wish I had thought of that before. HAHA I need to start looking at my clothes too. I always wear stuff I barely like but only because it fits. Then again, I would have to really focus because I’ve always been a jeans and T-shirt kind of gal so it’s hard. I have never worn a skirt in public but for only a few occassions. *sigh*
LOVE your outfit! I agree, it does seem like the perfect mix of comfy and pretty.
That outfit looks fantastic. I can’t say I really have one style. I like to get all dressed up and look sophisticated, but I also like to wear peasant style tops with scarves in a boho style. Other times I am completely happy in jeans and a t-shirt. I need to start trying to find one style I suppose.
You look lovely! I really struggle with my style. It’s especially hard because my work so often limits what I can wear, but I’m getting there.
Thanks so much guys! I’ll so a post on getting into vintage shopping, I found it really hard to pick up but now my thrifted clothes are my favourites!
Thanks again for checking out my new blog – I love you all madly for it = )
I love this outfit, it is so cute! I feel like I am still trying to find my own personal style.
Girl, you got mad style. I’ve always been intimidated by thrift shopping. You inspire me to at least try.
That outfit is so sweet and perfect. It looks great on you! :)
LOVE this outfit. I would totally wear the exact same thing. Must check out your Etsy store now!
your outfit is amazing and looks awesome on you!
*jealous*
